It opens at 9am, does food, and runs DJs and Sunday afternoon karaoke, so it is a lively room rather than a quiet one. It is the nearest dog-friendly pub to Locke Park and to the Barnsley end of the Trans Pennine Trail.
A pub on Dearne Hall Road at Low Barugh, on the River Dearne west of Barnsley and beside the Barnsley to Penistone railway. The pub states that dogs are welcome in the whole pub rather than the bar alone, with water bowls and treats kept for them. There is a beer garden and a car park. The riverside footpaths at Barugh Green and the old canal line towards Wilthorpe start within a few hundred yards, though the Wilthorpe Marsh reserve itself takes no dogs at all.
A road pub at 32 Pontefract Road on the eastern side of Barnsley, on the way out towards Stairfoot and Monk Bretton. Dearne Valley Country Park and Barnsley Main are both within a mile down the same road, which makes this the closest pub to the end of either walk.

The pub states that dogs are welcome in the bar area and keeps water bowls and treats behind the bar. There is a beer garden and a car park. Monk Bretton Priory is a few minutes away on foot, and Carlton Marsh and Wharncliffe Woodmoor are both a short drive north.
