The remains of a Cluniac priory founded in 1154, standing in mown grass off Abbey Lane at Lundwood on the eastern edge of Barnsley, with the gatehouse still roofed and the administrative range largely readable at ground level. English Heritage lists it among its dog-friendly places and entry is free. It is a small site, perhaps twenty minutes' walk round, and it sits directly above the Dearne, so it pairs naturally with Littleworth Park or the Trans Pennine Trail rather than filling an afternoon on its own. The ground is level grass and gravel with a short walk in from the roadside parking.
